King's College, Cambridge The Cambridge Experience
The "Cambridge Experience" provides a select number of approved seminarians, ordinarily of second-year Master of Divinity (or MTS/MAR) standing, the opportunity to spend one full year of studies at Westfield House. Cambridge is world-renowned as the home of one of the two oldest English universities, and has a long and eventful history predating the Roman era. The university is composed of 31 colleges, the oldest of which, Peterhouse, was founded in 1284 by Hugh de Balsham, Bishop of Ely. Westfield House provides the teaching space and programmes, a small but excellent theological library, and residence for WHIST students. The Bookshop on Castle Street Academic Programme
Students participating in the programme have the opportunity not only to live and study in the Cambridge environment, but also have access, under the auspices of Westfield House, to lectures at Cambridge University, and the privelege to utilise various libraries of the University. Attendance at University lectures is complemented with seminars, reading assignments, and classroom work at Westfield House, under the supervision of its faculty. Participating students are ordinarily able to transfur up to a full year of credit back to their home institution. Such transfer will be arranged by the International Tutor in consultation with the Preceptor and the registrar of the student's home institution. Participation in the Life of the ChurchAn important aspect of the Cambridge programme is the opportunity to experience the wider fellowship of confessional Lutheranism. To this end, students are encouraged to participate in the life of Resurrection Lutheran Church, Cambridge, and to the xtent practicable, in the life of the ELCE as a whole. This may be through field education opportunities or preaching and teaching assignments in ELCE parishes. The Backs The School Year and Financial Arrangements
The Cambridge school year is divided into three terms: Michaelmas, Lent, and Easter. Students should plan to arrive in Cambridge by mid-September for a brief time of settling in and orientation prior to the first term. They will be free to return home near the end of June. Each student is responsible for the cost of lodging at Westfield House, composition and tuition fees, and other living expenses. All fees will, therefore, be paid to Westfield House through the home institution. This also means that the student remains eligible for the normal financial aid provisions of the home institution. The Application ProcessApplication is made through the Westfield House International Studies Team (WHIST) representative at each home institution (see the list below). The application deadline is the 1st of March of each year. Offers of acceptance are granted by the Westfield House Committee, which reports back to the student's WHIST representative. When a student has been officially accepted, the International Tutor will provide the detailed information about travel and living arrangements, and answer any questions. Applicants to the Westfield House International Studies Programme should apply via the WHIST Application Form. This form must be endorsed by the participating institution's WHIST representative before being forwarded to Westfield House.
