The Good News of
Jesus Christ · God created men and women good, to live with Him and love
Him forever. The whole world was His gift for their support and enjoyment. · But Adam and Eve rebelled
against God by giving in to Satan’s temptation. Because of this all people
are now sinful,
and unable by themselves to love or obey God. · God, who is holy and
righteous, punishes sin with death here on earth, and eternal punishment in hell.
By ourselves we cannot escape this punishment. · Yet God did not abandon us in
our sin! He promised Adam and Eve that He would send a Saviour to set his people free from
sin and the punishment they deserved. · This Saviour is Jesus Christ, the Son of God, who came to
earth to be born of the virgin Mary that he might be a man like us. This
God-Man lived a perfect, sinless life, and then was put to death on a cross—not because of His own sins
but because of ours. |

· God in His love and mercy
chose to accept the death of Christ as punishment for the sins of the whole
world. To show that sin and death had been conquered, God brought Christ back
to life on
the first Easter! · Therefore, we now have nothing
to fear from death. Just as Christ rose from the dead, so too will we be
raised on the Last Day when Christ will take us home to our Father in heaven. · All this is ours—forgiveness
of sins, eternal life, and salvation—purely as gift of God. There is nothing
we can do to earn it. We receive it through faith in the work that Christ has
done for us. You can explore this further by reading these chapters of your Bible:
Genesis 1-3; Luke 1-2 & 22-24; John 3:1-21 & 5:16-30; Romans
3:19-6:23. |
